Overview, geography and weather
It was named as Zhong Dian originally, where the government of Di Qing Tibetan Autonomy state in Yun Nan Province. On May 5th, 2002, which was the Tibetan Art Festival, it was officially named as Shangri_la.
There are about 300, 000 people in Di Qian and about 50, 000 in Shangri_la. There are two main roads in town: Chang Zheng Lu (Long March Road), about 3 kilometre and He Ping Lu (Peace Road), about 2 kilometre. The most important buildings including banks, special local shops, governmental and official buildings will be found in Chang Zheng Lu. Grand hotels including Guan Guang Hotel (View Hotel, 4 stars) and Long Feng Xiang Hotel (Dragon Phoenix Hotel, 5 stars) and several nice local favoured restaurants could be found on He Ping Lu.
Shangri_la is 200 kilometre away from Li Jiang, and is a must-pass of ancient transporting road Cha Ma Gu Dao. The local airport is 5 kilometres from the town center.
The town is 3, 300 metres high altitude. The weather is humid highland weather, which is with sufficient sunshine, and distinct seasons. The tempeature is very different in the day time compared with at night. It's normal to wear T-shirt in the day time, when the temperature reaches 30 degree Celsius. While in the night, you should get yourself prepared with a decent jacket. From June till September is rainy season, you should get your anti-rain tools any time.
Spring is the ice melting time. The temperature is from 5-20 degree Celsius.
Summer is full of rain, which catches the highest temperature, which is from 15 to 30 degree Celsius. Landslides frequently happens encountering heavy rain.
Autumn is the most beautiful season and the harvest time. About 5-30 degree Celsius.
Winter is windy, with snow and the lowest temperature. It could be -20 degree Celsius the lowest.
